Additions in Version 38

Relatively few pattern additions this time - the main work has been on consolidation. Also work has been undertaking in writing a book giving more information about Islamic tiling patterns. Only six patterns have been added to the main mathematical set which are as follows: However, probably the most significant addition are of 48-point stars all by Moroccan artists. These have a technical problem: the star and also the surround are individually mathematically well-defined. However, joining the two parts up results in a mess! In fact, the four examples here use a 7-point star, see Paris Mosque, Rosette with 48-pts, Rosette with 48-pts, Rosette with 48-pts.

All these examples have been produce by Tony Lee using Inkscape - so it seems that many more large stars could be added.

New search facility

Based upon the usage made of the existing facility, a new version has been designed which is hopefully easier to use and has additional options.

The new version works entirely by setting options, designed to cover the main forms of tiling patterns. The major addition is that it is possible to state what should not appear in the pattern. Hence one can specify that a regular hexagon should appear but that an equilateral triangle should not (there are 209 such patterns).

For various techical reasons, I would like to remove the older searching system, so I would appreciate feedback on the new system. To date, the feedback has been minimal, so all the search facilities will remain for now.

The new Advanced search is here.
